Default Clicking noise

I recently changed my clutch. When I started the car i heard a clicking. Is that from the clutch install? I had a lil trouble lining the transmission up. About a 1/4" gap between tranny and bellhousing. I used the four bolts to evenly tighten it. With a 1/4" Im sure it was in the pilot bearing. Anyone had this problem?

Forcing the transmission like you did probably ruined the pilot bearing. It needs to come back out.

I heard that with a half inch gap. When it was only a quarter inch, I thought I was good. I did spin the tranny output with the clutch pushed. Spun freely. Would bad pilot bearing cause clicking ?

Put some more miles on it. If it goes away you're good. If it doesn't...

would it damage the input shaft. I have had the clutch depressed the whole. Have not put it gear yet with clutch off. I havent got the shifter on yet and no fluid yet. Just tried to see if the motor would turn over. Bought the car without tranny, so I never heard it run. So I guess the once I get the fluid and the shifter, i will try again.

The bearings can get stressed when the bellhousing bolts are used to finish taking the slack out. If it was mine I'd pull it back out and replace that bearing. The input shaft should be ok. You're not that far into the install, better safe than sorry. If you decide to replace it, put a little grease on the end of the input shaft when you reinstall it.

Wish I could do it with out taking the hpipe back off. Is that possible? Im in no hurry, i heard it run. So I will make sure I do it right, and fix the bearing. Maybe if someone holds the clutch when I slide the tranny in, itll be fine. Thanks for all the help.

You can remove the 4 tranny bolts that bolt to the bellhousing and pull it backwards and then nose down but it's tight and a balancing act with or without a jack. You need someone to help you.

Think about it.., since it didnt line up properly the 1st time.., i would take it all out and confirm that the bearings (pilot/throwout) are still good. Also sometimes it take some moving around as you stick the tranny in.., Iv never stopped untill there was no gap between the tranny and the bellhousing! Keep at it sir!!

Is that clicking noise when the clutch is fully depressed or when the clutch is engaged?
