Default Oil pressure gauge questions

94 GT, my pressure switch is leaking its *** off, I can A) replace it, or B) Install an aftermarket gauge.

My questions that will determine what goes down are, the computer doesn't rely on any readings from this sensor does it? As far as I know it only gives the gauge a reading. If this is true, what is the thread size for the switch so I can get the right adapters if needed to run an aftermarket gauge from this location. I realize the stock gauge will be dead from this setup but I really don't care.

Sweetness, thanks for the quick response, I wasn't sure if maybe the computer monitors the gauge and throws it into limp mode if it senses no pressure or anything.
