Default TB upgrade

I just bought a ported and polished throttle body. The info I got was "this was a 55mm throttle body..it was ported an polished to 65mm..it has the same flow velocity as a 70mm..or give or take a little higher." What else would I need to complete this up grade? MAF ? SPACER? Something done with intake ? Hope to keep the project on the cheep. (I sure got the tb at a good deal) !

Man, home made, ported and polished TB that used to be a 55mm? Hmm.. I'd like to see that, but maybe I can shed some light on it. The 87 Mustang GT used a 58mm TB. 1988 and up used a 60mm. So you might have a stock 58mm or 60mm punched out to 65mm or so? How well it was punched out, smoothly or not, I'm curious to know. Anyway, you'd need a 65mm or 70mm EGR spacer. You're 88 (if stock) should be Speed Density, so no MAF. Unless you've converted from SD to Mass Air. Also, the stock 88 on upper intake track is said to be 60mm. Some say that you need dremmel out the upper a bit to match up to the larger 65mm and up EGR spacer. I can tell you for a fact that this is not correct, and not worth the effort when switching from 60mm to 65mm EGR. I just installed a PP 65mm EGR spacer and TB on my upper that came from an 88 GT, and the tracts of the EGR spacer, and the opening on the upper were almost exactly the same. There was a slight, and I mean slight lip of less that 0.5 mm around. Not worth in my humble opinion to dremmel out. If I was going with a 70mm EGR and TB, yes, I would port match. Now, dyno results have shown a typical gain of 2-3HP when switching from 60mm to 65mm TB. Most seen in the dyno testing that I have seen in one of my books was 4RWHP gain. But after I switched form my 60 to 65mm, I can definitely feel the difference. Throttle resonse is quicker, car feels smoother, and pulls better. I do not have a dyno sheet to prove the before and after, but just letting you know my humble observations and opinion. Hope this helps...

It's gonna be hard to get your car to run right if you don't go to mass air. Speed density is gonna drive you nuts with too many upgrades.

guess I should maybe see what I have on it now first? Not sure if it will be an upgrade or not. I appreciate the info. I'm not at all up on FI engines.

what size is the opening where the blade is i imagine its the stock size..i know a lot of people more to explorer 5.0 throttle bodies when they get the gt40 heads and the explorer intake from the junkyard its larger..but you need to go mass air before you start modding or youre gonna be all out of whack unless you tune it after every mod..

You need something like this...http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...Wiring-Harness You'll also need a 89-93 ecm. If you're building this car on a budget, this might be more than you want to spend.

OK. I guess I kinda put the cart before my horse, LOL. What is the throttle body worth that I bought ? maybe I will just go with a cold air intake and call it a day.
