That's why I do my own oil changes now. Also be aware that the rubber o ring will sometimes stick to the block when removing the filter and then cause the new filter to leak due to the old ring meshing with the new one and failing to form a good seal. Sorry to hear you had to go through that hell with the filter.

He was trying to do his own oil change. The previous owner cranked down on that filter. You'd be surprised at how many people I have watched crank down on those filters with filter wrenches putting it on. Hand tight is all you need.

Those oil change places luv to crank every thing down so tight you cant get it off easily , that way youll bring it back to them. Sorry this one bit ya it the *** man. Im assuming you didn't have an oil filter wrench .. Of course Ive seen them so tight from cranking them on , and then someone misses about 5 oil changes and the filter just will not come off even with a filter wrench.

some people like your oil change guys, misinturp the notice of 3/4 turn after seated meaning. sometines the solution is a filter wrench shaped in 3 fingers as you turn the tool the fingers tighten down on filter making it easier to get off. BUT in this case problably nothing short of a stick of "dinomight" would get it off there.
