Default Bearing Clearancing

Anybody have any tricks for getting more clearance on the main bearings? I have polished the crank, align honed the mains, and am using undersized bearings. Still dont have enough clearance.

If you have the crank machined, block line honed and use the correct bearings you should have the correct clearance. You may have to have the crank ground down to the next bearing size.

What clearance are you looking for, and what do you have?

Ask jim at fordstrokers, iirc when he encounters such an issue he may mix and match undersize/oversize bearings to achieve the correct clearance.....but don't quote me on that...ask him

I'd be good with .0018 to .002, but I prefer them a little tighter. To get more clearance requires either expanding the bores (re-honing), or shrinking the crank (re-polishing)....

Yeah i had a thread on the corral going w him. He was saying that the hone was probably on the low side and the crank is still on the high side. Its only the 1 and 2 journals. I remeasured and theyre at .0022". Which is better, and probably ok for the streets, but i dont want to spin a bearing because of it. Im using both shells of the undersized bearings

Scotchbrite is your friend.
Use it carefully with frequent checks of just where you really are for clearance.
Only use the finer grades.......

Thank you, i had this idea but was hesitant to use it. Should i do it on the crank journal or the bearing?
