I'm confused... Are you saying that the investment for GT40Ps vs. E7s isn't worth it and that repairing E7s is the way to go over doing the same repairs to GT40Ps?

Agreed.. That's exactly what I did when my buddy upgraded his '95 Cobra to AFRs... I paid the "premium" cost of $200 for 65,000 mile heads.

However, GT40s aren't falling out o the sky, and P heads are still an obscene value.

well the gt40s on on the explorers too...but they have a slightly larger chamber than the lightning and cobra gt40s....1996-1997.5 explorers have regular gt40 heads just shave them and you basically have a knock off cobra head

ok... this is now a total thread-jack...

I thought *ALL* explorer heads were Ps and needed funky (well... MAC [?] only) headers because of the plug angle?

I am not a real ford guy and don't know all the prices of things yet. I found with my mopar that rebuilding stock heads are a waste of money. For the cost of rebuilding stock heads. You can add a little more in and get a set of aluminum heads that will weigh less, flow and run a lot better. Just my 02 here

As much as I LOVE Mopar, and AMC even more (eat one, AMC haters), I'm in total agreement with you on that topic... "Budget" Mopar/AMC builds just don't really exist.

Here in Fordsmallblockvillle deals can still be found! I'm really lobbying hard for the OP to go that way (30 years from now we'll all be in "Moparville" cost wise)!!!

Mopar cylinder heads have caused wealth men to become poor.
I know, I recad them for 25 years.
Seems like the SBF stuff is like candy, cheap and always for sale out there.....
