Default Advancing my timing

This is a dumb question, I know. How do I get the disributer to spin so that I can advance my timing?

loosen the hold down bolt ( 1/2 inch head at base of distributor) take out the spout connecter so that the computer
isnt controlling the timing.

hard to say exactly I'd start at maybe 14 deg. and drive it if it pings back it off if it doesnt raise it until
you find a happy medium. Drive it with the spout connector re-connected.

Thanks for the help, but if you could just clarify one thing for me. What IS the spout connector, what does it look like, and how is it removed?

the spout connector is a little gray box about 1 inch in size. When you take it out look in side and it will have two pins, all it does it make it possible to disconnect the computer from the distributer so you can set the timing. It usually is sticking out of the wiring right by the dist.or maybe by the spark controller. I have a 94 and it is on the pass side fender. It might be taped to the outside
of the wire loom, instead of just hanging there, depends on what the last person that timed it did.
