Default aod track time ouch, help needed

Took my lx hatch aod, to the track for first time. Stock, besides explorer intake and h pipe. Motor feels really strong, yet I was spanked by my buddy. By the car I sold to him lol. His gt hatch, stock besides a cai, pulleys, mild shift kit was running 15.0-15.2. He does have 3.27s. My new to me lx, only ran a pitiful 15.6 with 2.5-2.6 60ft times. It just had a full tune up and timing is at 12degrees. Stomping it from the line, since it would not break loose the tires anyways with the 2.73s it has.

What should I look into? is it the gears and worn out trac-lok holding me back or what. Would adding the pulleys, and shift kit and gears help?

Any AOD owners who have stock times with 2.73s in recent years?

With an AOD, anything less than 3.73 is gonna hurt performance. The pulleys wont net you anything worth much. Best bet is a converter and gears, to really wake it up.

yes im thinking 3.73s will be good. 4.10s maybe better, but I drive this car on hwy and its a street car. I also would like to put in a better stall converter, but that will have to wait right now. hopefully the shift kit and gears net a much more respectable time. ill update once I see.

The gears and the trac-lock would be the first things to do......

+1^ gears, gears, gears. Then let the spanking of your buddy begin. And I don't mean that in a "politically correct ……queer" way.

You will find that both 3.73 and or 4.10 gears would not put too much of a dent on the drivability on highway with an AOD. with 4.10 gears and stock tires, you would spin approx 2200 RPM, which is where I was at when I had my Fox in 1990. Besides the shift kit, you would need to upgrade the OD band to a 2 inch, and upgrade the servo, to one from a thunderbird SC.

Yes indeed, with the 4.10 gears. Having the 2 inch band for the overdrive is important as well, unless you keep the car out of overdrive for normal driving. The AOD had a tendency to engage the overdrive prematurely back and forth between overdrive and 3rd gear. the gearing on the AOD, was very anemic, which is why the acceleration is pathetic, unless you improve it with a 4.10 or at the very minimum a 3.73. I used a 10 inch 3500 stall for daily driving, with 4.10 gears, and was even carbureted, and it still was pretty decent on gas, but then again, gas was still at barely over 1.25 back then.

3.73 or 4.10's for sure. That will greatly help.
