Default Help.

My cousin just bought a WRX and smoked my stock 95 5.0. Can you guys give me some ways to beef up my horsepower quick? Already found a cold air intake kit to put on, give me anything. I'm not super familiar with mustangs but I'm not a bad mechanic.

Thanks!

quickest thing you can do is check the timing and see where your at, they come from the factory 10 degrees before tdc. Most times you can bump them up to around 12 to 14. Youll most likely get a bit of ignition knock but that can usually be eliminated with the use of some higher octane fuel. That is about the only thing you can do quick and it is a noticeable difference. After that your into swapping parts, and paying for simple bolt ons such as going to a explorer gt40 intake and installing some decent headers . The stock headers are really restrictive I think 1 " diameter , going to a 1 5/8" set of headers really does help. I doubt very seriously youll get enough of a gain from bumping timing alone to jump over that little Subaru boxer engine, they really make some torque and have traction for days. Plus the impreza is a lot lighter than your sn95 body.

Swapping out the rear gears will really wake it up

Im interested in knowing what wrx he got. If its the twin turbo 2.0 liter I think that thing makes close to 280 bhp, fitted into a small light weight vehical I think they are all of 2600 pounds. The sn95 cars are about 4 or 5 hundred pounds heavier with a stock hp rating of 215 . Youd need a lot of work to match the ratio of weight to hp of that car. Depends on the year and make of the wrx there were several through out the years.

I'm not sure exactly which model, but it's not the twin turbo, only one turbocharger.

What's the best cam match with gt40 heads and intake? Or should I just wait and get a trick flow setup instead of gt40?

Depends what year wrx, they range from a mid to low 14 second car down to lower 13's for the new models

Throw in a 150 shot and be done with it

Not sure about the CAI. A good high flow filter will work just as well in most cases. I agree with dawson 1112. Advance the timing a bit as he said, but you'll need to run premium gas and/or a step colder plugs. You'll get a decent amount from that. I would defintely swap gears. Go to a 3.73 or 4.10's if you're intent is to get as much off the line as possible. Headers for sure. The rest all depends on money. You could look for some heads that are better flowing or see if you could get work done to the stock ones you have.

Other alternatives to beat the WRX off in a drag, toss out some weight. Spare tire, jack, backseats if you are so inclined. That WRX is a lot lighter and that's probably the biggest disadvantage over you beside the AWD. You could always try to sneak a 50-100 shot in there, but I'm more of a pure motor guy. Let us know what you do.
