Distributor won't turn

Distributor won't turn
Trying to set the timing on my 95 5.0 GT, loosened the clamp, but distributor does not turn. I had it our recently, so if it's frozen in place it's a new development. Waiting for the engine to cool down to see if this is permanent or just engine temp related. Anyone experience this before?

Never on a fresh install of the dizzy but ive hade some difficulty with one that was in the engine for 20 years be pretty stubborn. Did you use any diametric grease on the o-ring before you put it in? I always put it on any thing rubber like that , O-rings plug wire boots . Take the cap off and make sure the roter is not broken or something inside keeping it from moving. Other wise you might have to loosen the clamp a bit more and put some effort in to it.

Yea that would be my guess . Just out of curiosity what is you temps doing at its hottest. To hot can defiantly cause the o-ring to stick .

For the moment, I managed to set the timing. I'll replace the o-ring as I clean up the rest of this project, but at least it's TIMED. Now to solve why it won't stop at idle when I take my foot off the gas. If it weren't a fairly new (2 months old) idle bypass valve, I'd say that was it. Not that I've ruled it out...

Ahh the dreaded 1200-1500rpm idle when letting off the gas. I am assuming that it eventually resumes the normal 750 rpm after about 10 15 seconds or if you kick the pedal a few times ? Did you do any other work to the car? maybe a vacuum leak ?
My 94 did this to , it took me a couple weeks of playing with the idle settings, adjusting the throttle cable doing a base idle relearn, I also played with the tps settings . One other thing to check is the tension on the cruise control cable .

Base idle relearn? Probably need to do that. I put a GT40 intake on and have been having to adapt all sorts of things, including a different throttle position sensor. Currently it simply drops to 0 rpm rather than the dreaded 1200-1500 rpm. How do I do base idle reset?
