I'm buying an 82 mustang. Its a 5.0 litre but has no engine or tranny. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what kind of engine and tranny I should put in it and where I can buy them. Not looking for anything fancy just something I can build up. I can spend around $600 on each.

for 600 bucks your gunna get whatever is available for that price in your local area. (hate to say it may not be much)... cheapest stock rebuild ive seen for transmission is around that or a little more.. if your gunna run more hp than stock I wouldn't go stock trans.. Astro performance sells a beefed up t5 for around 1700. Engine you can get from a junker and rebuild if your mechanically inclined. Engine can be got cheap, rebuilding and parts and whatnot can be very pricey.

Plan ahead for what your end goal is, consider how long you will take to achieve it.. buy parts accordingly

I saw Washington so I did a check on car-parts.com there is one that's been tested with 102k miles on it for 750 bucks but its in seatle not sure where you are and some even cheapers that's all around the state of Washington if your wanting to go stock car-parts.com would be a great place to find stuff just make sure its a good junkyard and trustworthy also the same junkyard has the tranny from behind that motor for 375 but its a manual
