Default Help with a troublesome shimmy

Hello to all my fellow mustang owners. I need some help with my 1995 Mustang GT convertible. I bought this car new and the problem I'm having with it has been present since it was new and no one can seem to fix it. At about 55mph the car shimmies in the front end. I feel it in the steering wheel. The car has only 7,200 miles on it so I can't believe that there are any worn out parts in the front end. The following things have been done: Front end has been aligned three times with the last one being two months ago Everything is fine in that regard. Original tires rebalanced. No change. New tires and wheels form Tire Rack. No change Those tires rebalanced. No change. I replaced the brake rotors and pads. No change. Now the only other revolving parts are the hubs themselves. Has anyone ever had trouble with the hubs being faulty right from the start? Thanks for any help you folks can provide. Mark

Im a little astounded here so give me a second to clear some things up ,,, You bought the car brand new in 1995 and have only put 7,200miles on the car? That equates to about 1.1 miles a day for 18 years . That's an amazingly low milage for one of these cars.

If it did this ever since you drove it off the lot why did you not take it back to the dealer under warranty back then?

Did you not drive it for a few years when you first bought it?

Shimmy in the front end that translates to the steering wheel can be a few things

Tie rod inner/outer ends
Ball joint
Control arm bushings.
Possibly a bad hub from the factory , bearing not pressed fully/or debris between bearing and hub casing causing it to be sort of " tilted " in the hub. <(never seen it but you never no)

Bent rim
Bad rack & pinion bushings

I am surprised at the fact that an alignment shop could not pin point the issue for you as part of the process of alignment is inspection of suspension and steering parts.

Default My car has same shimmy - but is 1990 with 59K

I took mine to the front end shop, they found the shimmy in seconds - worn tie rod ends...I just have to get new front tires first and then we will replace
those ends...

But, mine is 23 years old and has 59K miles and is a convertible that had been in a front end accident...

You need a better front end shop....

Thanks for the replies guys. I did take the car back to the Ford dealer right after I bought it and they couldn't fix this problem. I've been told that one of the wheels may be bent but why did it do it with the original wheels and also with the wheels and tires I bought from Tire Rack? I've been over the front end and nothing is loose. And yes the car only has 7,200 miles on it. It is garaged all the time so it is just like new. It is Rio Red with a white top and white leather interior, 5.0 with the five speed transmission. Great car except for this annoying problem!! Mark
