what rpm to shift at??
Well thats hard to say.Are we dealing with a stock setup here?Give the specs on the car and its mods to get a better answer. Most of the time you have to find the cars "SWEET SPOT".

But to answer that with an educated guess i'd have to have all the cars specs and mods.

If its a stocker shift at 4900. But here is the catch, 5.0s are notorious for having tachs that are way off. I bought a AUTOMETER and my stock tach was off 500 rpm from 4500 to 6250(rev-limiter). So if you shift at 5000, it may not really be 5000. It may be 4500 or even worse. I have seen them off as much as 800-900. I am not kidding. I recommend a aftermarket tach if you are going to be drag racing to ensure you get the most out of every shift.

Hi, I own a 1989 Mustang GT with manual trans, the engine is stock. I bought the car with about 160,000 miles on it. Still.. I was able to beat a 2002 Nissan Maxima at the stop light, I was ahead until about 90m/h before the next stop light!! my shift points? 5000rpms. We tried one more time with me shifting at 6000rpms........
