Default I am ordering a 347 short block

from fordstrokers and it is going into my 66. I have a wieand stealth intake and a 670 avenger carb, I will also be running trick flow 170 heads. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tf...-m61/overview/
Im am using scorpion 1.6 rockers

I am coming out of my original 66 block that is a flat tappet set up. I am looking for recommendations on cam and lifters for the new engine as well as any other things I may need. I know the 289 and 302 block are virtually identical. I also know I will need a new balancer and flywheel.

any suggestions will help. thanks ahead of time. I also currently have a hydraulic clutch with a lever pushing slave. I am wanting to go to a hydraulic t-bearing slave. I could use could use some suggestions there too.

You need more cylinder head and probably more carb.
347 is a different animal than a 302.
Forget about 302 parts........

Are they the older casting version 170's or the new 11R? Either way, i agree with Tinman in that you'll need bigger. I would think 185-205 range

Definatly I wouldn't go any less than a set of 185cc heads. 205s would be ideal .

And that carb is gonna choke off your upper power. at least a 750 for that engine.

Would I be better off with a 331 then. The heads are new. I only put them on the car 5 months ago. Im not gonna buy new heads, I can send mine out for porting though. I'm sure it would help. I'm not looking for quarter mile times just something fun on the street. I was happy with my 302 but wound it up too high and broke a rod. So I figured why not go a little bigger.
I'm also limited by my ture size. 245 are as wide as I can fit. I have no interest in a mini tub.

Since I have no interest buying new heads, intake and carb, should I just get a new 302 bottom end.

Or you could purchase the 347 stroker kit and do the build yourself.

Youd save about 50% cost by doing it yourself , then you could get the heads and intake you need for the 347.

If your dead set on not getting either 185-205 heads and a better intake and carb , then there is not much use in a 347. In the end it all comes down to how much power and torque you want to make for the car.

A little 302 roller block with some 170 heads and a decent HO roller cam will make a fun little car for the street. And if you really want to get some power add a small SC or turbo. A little boost goes a long way.

The heads will choke the 347 (or 331) somewhat, but, if those are your options I would do the 347. It will make 60 ft lbs (+/-) more torque than the 302, but won't make a lot more power because of the heads (and carb) choking the top end. It will still be a lot more fun on the street than a 302.

Not imo. get the 347.

get the heads pocket ported if you do any porting.

have the intake valve back cut.

CAM - Depending on your gearing, the biggest cam i would run with those heads is a comp xe268h. it has a moderate lope at idle. the xe274h is sort of radical in a 347 with any heads and is a very popular choice fir those that want big hp and noise etc. best with 3.23 - 3.50 gears.

the xe262h is an xlnt choice for good bottom and lower mid range, mild lope at idle. best with 3.00 - 3.43 gears.

STALL CONVERTER - A mild 2000 - 2400 is recommended.
