EGR valve knocking at idle, good or bad?

I was testing out my egr valve, listening to it with stethoscope and my just makes an air hissing noise. However my buddys fox, his egr valve makes a knocking sound at idle. Is the knocking normal, or bad valve?

maybe the car has an exhaust leak at the egr gasket. Is this the same car that has a knocking sound from the flowmaster muffler?

no actually the car making the knocking noise at the flowmaster, is the car that is not making any knocking sound at the egr valve.
