do i need new valve springs? and seal question

this means you need different retainers but they did not tell you this did they?
i figured they would, this is why i suggested you look at their online catalog for different ones.
Not exactly, it all depends on the cam profile. Virtually no one does this, it is not necessary simply because there is rarely a huge difference between the in and ex lobe height and ramp angle. As long as the seat pressure is within the values I mentioned earlier, if one lobe has less lift than the other, than the one with the shorter lift will obviously have less open pressure than the taller lobe even though the closed pressures are exactly the same, pretty cool huh?.

no, they didnt mention the need for different retainers, but this is something i realized on my own believe it or not. i further assumed different retainers also meant different clips, but not sure about that.
anyway, i ordered the ford springs to avoid any further complications.
im going to have the guy check my old springs to see if theyre still good, if not put in the new ford springs.
this way theres also minimal variables added to the equation, which makes me happy.
i told summit they boned me on the springs and they are going to waive the return shipping fee. yippee

wow, it looks like your cam eas a chinese made one or the roller on your lifter seized aso it then wore a groove in the cam. yes you will have a bit of ultra fine metal powder in your engine that will not come out until it is disassembled so get a magnetic drain plug for sure.
if your parts are all stock ford and it has grooves on other lobes and less than around 160 k mikes on it then it was run with cheap oil for a long time.
you can also install the mag drain plug, run 4 qts of 10w -30 oil or thinner and 1 qt of rislone and a mobil 1 nano filter, then drive it for 100 miles or so then change back to reg oil and a new nano filter.

take a look at the old springs off my car. all the exhaust springs are a gold-ish color, while all the intake springs are black.
theres about 110k-ish miles on the springs
lets say they were all the same color when they were installed (which i dont know if its the case or not. for all i know, they come 8 black and 8 gold). is that possible for them to change (i cant imagine how)? is this indicative of any problems? normal?
thanks

are those your cars orig springs or the 303 cam springs?
blue is heat but it is impossible for the head to get hot emough to cause the spring to turn blue. the blue spring is also on the intake valve which runs cooler than the ex valve so no, you do not have a prob. i have never seen different colored aftermarket springs therefore i will guess those are orig ford springs ans they are quite "soft".

the original Ford springs are on the original heads still in a box in my garage. that's about all I know for sure. these springs were installed with the gt40 heads. a lot of stuff happened at once, so I can't remember too good. I think I recall seeing the springs on the head during install and seeing they had yellow and white marks on them which seems to be the same I saw on summit racing when I was browsing.
