Default plug on transmission

found a plug on my transmission with wires that is not connected to anything...does anyone know what plug this is for... I was changing the odometer gear when I looked to the right and saw this plug...please help...I have a 1990 5.0 manual transmission

Hmmm, when I did my T5 swap I don't remember a switch back there. But it's been a couple years now. Someone will chime in here soon, but I'm curious also on what it could be.

Doesn't look like factory wiring connections, could it be an aftermarket temp sensor? Just guessing.

Never seen that before. My first thought was an output speed sensor but I dont know what it would read off of in that spot. Same goes for a temp sensor. Fluid wouldnt get in good, constant contact in that location.

That doesn't look like a t5. It looks like a TKO 500. Those had bosses to use both mechanical and vss type speed sensors. The one on the tail shaft is the has used on later mustangs.
