T-5 Shifter Problem

Hi all. Recently bought a 1988 GT. Previous owner appears to have installed a Hurst short throw shifter. Shifter feels great except for sometimes when you shift too aggressively out of 2nd gear, it seems like the shifter completely loses the gears. You can wiggle the shifter around freely at this point but no gears can be found. After a big of wiggling with it, suddenly the shifter stiffens up again and you can shift in and out of gears. Any guidance on this?

Sorry to say but I don't think its the shifter, sounds like an internal problem in the T5. Someone with more knowledge may chime in here to verify.

Have you removed the shifter just to make sure its not damaged? Only takes a couple minutes.

I would pull the boot and cover and make sure the mounting plate is secure and the bolts are tight or not missing any.

It almost sounds like its lifting up out of the socket .

If that is all good , then you are probly looking at an internal problem.

My first instinct was to remove the shifter. I'll go ahead and do that. Fingers crossed that it isn't something worse
