Dropping the tank without removing filler neck?

Got a 1990 GT. About to start the process of dropping the tank and I heard that you have to replace the grommet anytime you remove the filler neck, I previously replaced it and wouldn't mind dropping the tank without removing the neck, is this possible? Thanks in advance.

possible ? probably but likely difficult.

I had never heard that you necessarily need to replace the gromit, its a good idea if its an old one though since the tank has to come down any ways to do it.

I would think if you just replaced it not long ago then it should be fine.

no need to remove filler neck, I drop the tank and slide it towards the driverside and never have had to remove the filler neck

I tried and tried and I couldn't make it happen on my notch. I had to pull the filler
