I have been having a problem with my 1990 Mustang GT. It has an AOD transmission in it.

I recently lost my OD. Here is where it gets weird and thus the reason I am posting. If I have the car in OD I lose 3rd and OD, but when I just have it in drive I seem to have 3rd working. I'm expecting everyone to tell me I need rebuild or to put T5 which I am considering when finances allow, but I am hoping maybe there is a smaller problem with linkage or what not.

When in OD I lose 3rd and OD
When in D I have 3rd.

Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks

OD band is toast....common prob in DOA'S .... REBUILD TIME

Any explanation as to why I lost 3rd when shifter is in OD but not when in D?

are you sure you don't have 3rd when selector is in OD?? DID YOU COUNT the shifts to be certain??
