Question How to make clutch softer?

I went to Mustang show and sat in an 89 5.0 that had the clutch replaced to make it much smoother/easier to push down. I called a highly recommended mechanic near me to do the same for my 93 5.0 GT, but he said he would have to research the part by my VIN. Has anyone done this for their Mustang, and if so, roughly how much does it cost?

A lot of it depends on the clutch itself. From what I've heard a King Cobra clutch is a nightmare to push. Ive always ran spec clutches and they are nice and smooth. Dont know about a stock clutch, never felt one.

Does your car have an aftermarket clutch now, and you want to put a stock replacement back in. A stock clutch has a very easy throw to begin with.

Or did this show car have a hydraulic clutch set up? Stockers are cable operated.

I bought it used, but I am almost certain I have a stock clutch. The guy at the mustang show didn't know the brand of the clutch or how much it cost but his was so much easier to push down in his car.
I have back issues that have actually prevented me from driving my baby so she has been garaged for years. Now I am determined to take my baby out and get her and me back on the road together.

You could get a hydraulic clutch conversion. Pretty spendy but provides softer feel and no cable to stretch.

+1 on King Cobra clutches being a bear to use. So much pressure needed, I ended up with chronic pain in my left foot for the last 6 months I had it in the car, and 6 months after replacing it with a CF. I would curse like I had Tourette Syndrome if there was a traffic jam.

I don't mind my king cobra clutch, yeah it's not the lightest but in my opinion it's all in the cable. I've switched out many different clutch cables and each one felt a little different (they kept breaking). Now I use the tougher oem ford clutch cable (Maximum Motorsports) and it's nice and smooth. Don't spend a fortune switching out your clutch kit just to find your cable needed a swap.
