308-too much compression?

308-too much compression?
okay, I just put together a 302 bored 0.040 over and I ported the heads, and I put thinner than stock head gaskets in.
when I start it up it starts fine, accept when its hot, it almost sounds like the battery is dead, then it fires up.
could this hard starting be because of the higher than stock compression?
or could it have something to do with my using 2 gauge wire for my battery relocation?
I am getting a little worried about reliability now.
I dont want to drive somewhere and not be able to start it.

RE: 308-too much compression?
someone correct me if im wrong but do you not have to put in a stronger starter if the compression goes way up? it makes sense that the stock starter wont have enough oopmf to turn the engine and will sound like a dead baterry???

RE: 308-too much compression?
stock starter is for stock CR
raised CR needs a stronger starter,
reason its hard when hot is the starter is already hot. you get the most cranking power when you first kick it over

The 2 gauge doesn't help, and if your timing is advanced too far for starting it will cause that also, even sometimes on stock engines. Are you running an MSD box at all? I think the 6AL has a retard for starting.

RE: 308-too much compression?
my timing is set at 12 degrees, but I did use thinner head gaskets, 0.9mm, and flat top pistons
speed pro h273cp to be exact. wouldnt that up my compression a little?
I know stock pistons have a small dish to them.
vfast, it starts good when cold, it only has a hard time when hot, if the wire was too small wouldnt it happen alll the time?
edit: I am running a 6a msd, and my headers are wrapped with header wrap.
