questions about installing lower intake
hey all
the next step in my put everything back together odyssey is to install the lower intake.
i have the gaskets for the intake to head surface. they have the blue outline stuff only on one side of the gasket. does the side with the blue face the heads or the intake or does it not matter?
also, i have the cork gaskets the sit between the lower intake and the block. i am assuming i sit those in place (they have sticky backing on one side to keep them in place it appears) and also put a blob of utlra black in the corners? sound right?
when i installed the heads, i use guide bolts to align things. is that a technique i should use while installing the lower intake? is it even possible?
also, is there anything special i should do at this point during install? use some type of sealant on the gaskets maybe?
thanks in advance

couple more questions
am i supposed to put any thread sealant or thread lock on the lower intake bolts?
also, am i supposed to trim away some of this gasket that is partially covering the coolant passage? looks like i should cut away the lower left part and the vertical strip on the right. basically just remove all the inside material until i just have a rectangular opening that matches the passage.
regarding the cork gasket in the pic, the little tab is bent up a bit onto the side of the head, this is correct, yes? looks like i have to position the two cork gaskets perfectly to make the intake ports line up perfectly with the gasket openings.
lastly, can i use some type of spray on sticky substance to keep the gaskets perfectly positioned during install of the lower intake?

RTV of some sort, I use ultra black or ultra copper on the intake gaskets around all the coolant ports on both sides of the gasket.
I always use 4 studs to keep the gaskets in place and to help guide the intake down evenly .
As for the gaskets I don't think it matters ,but generally the gaskets I have gotten in the past had that blue seal on both sides. ( when in doubt on lower intake RTV it )
I always throw that cork thing in the garbage and run a full bead of RTV across in its place. corner to corner then after it sets up a bit I shave off the excess that squeezed out.
Also I don't know what intake gasket kit you bought but I have never seen that spot for a bolt to go in through the middle of the coolant port , cut that off.
I have never used any Loctite on a lower intake .

I use intake studs vs. bolts. A very thin layer of RTV on both sides of the intake to head gaskets. Throw the cork away and us a large amount of RTV in it's place. And lastly, cut that portion of the gasket in your photo off. Be extremely carful not to damage the gasket. A utility knife will get you close then use a dremmel for the last little bit. Don't get any kind of debris in the engine. remove the gaskets from the engine when shaving that material with the knife & dremmel.
