RE: 5.0 Cobra engine and the 5.0
Im just taking a shot at this but I think the Cobra engine have different, pistons, computer, injectors, intake, and tranny. As far as the block im preety sure they are the same. I think they might have 1.7 lifter though but im not sure. Did they have different heads anyone know?

you guy's are pretty much right gt 40's crane 1.7's,intake,24lb inj.,mass air was a little bigger,t-body was a little bigger.
the tranny was junk!.,they had issues of breakage.,so supposedly they made the computer not as aggressive? which i think is boggus, cause why is the aftermarket chips, pms, ect. use it as a base line for start up programming?

stock 94-95 cobra owners were stuck with the 60mm throttle body that the gts had, the 93 cobra had a 65 mm tb tho. The computer was not made as aggressive in cobra beacuse of the ROLLER ROCKER 1.7s, the stock gt's had non roller 1.6s so to make up for the extra lift the car recvived a less aggressive camshaft that makes the computer flip out sometimes with certain cams under a 112 LSA, and dont you ever belive that 240 hp rating on the pushrod cobras either, people are dynoing 232 at the wheels bone stock on these suckers, and multiple magazines have shown its more of a 270 ish rating. THe computer problem sucks tho cause your forced to tune more so then other when you do internal work. otherwise im happy with my 94 cobra.

The Cobra cam actually has more lift and duration than the stock Fox cam. I agree that the Cobra pcm is less aggressive for spark and fuel. Neither the 94-95 GT's pcm (T4MO) or 94-95 Cobra pcm (J4J1) likes h/c/i changes. This is because the programming is load based and not rpm based like Fox pcm (A9L). Does this make the A9L better or the Cobra computer sick. IMO the answer is NO! Look at this way the A9L is actually allowing modifications because it is not correctly adjusting for those mods. The load based pcm's are more sensitive (accurate) to airflow, spark & fuel changes.
The blocks are identical as is the TB and MAF.
