I just started using my spare autometer temp gauge with new sender. The stock gauge was inaccurate. After install Temp would reach above the 210 line. Today i flushed the cooling system and installed 180 thermostat. It mad no difference. Car still warm, the fan kicks on when car is warmer past 210 more like 220 and when it does turn on it stops within 5min. Temp stays steady at about 220 and this at night 59 degrees out. Same at day also. What gives? I wish i could turn on fan sooner.

As long as the cars not overheating. Don't worry about it. If it really bothers you , you can wire the fan to run all the time. (Not needed). They make nice gauge pods for our cars by the way.

Well imagine what my cars temp would be if i drove it in 85 plus degree weather. I dont wanna know. I will prob buy this (link at bottom). All my other stangs have ran below 200. Also dont i lose power when running warmer? As for the gauge pod not my style if you ask me. I like the look of originality when it comes to my cobra but do think its tacky having 2 temp gauges and one not working for the public to see. Id rather have it tucked..Smooth.. silky smooth!

Turning the fan on sooner and having it run longer is not a solution to a cooler engine.

If your car is running at 220 while traveling 40+ mph then having the fan run more isn't going to make it any cooler. The fans are only designed to come on at a certain temp, they don't even run usually when cruising down the highway due to the air being forced through the radiator. The only time you should really see the fan run is idling in traffic, with the A/C on, or after some very high rev pulls.

If your radiator is not performing efficiently enough to keep temps between 195-205 while cruising then running the fan more is not the answer, it is simply time for a new radiator or water pump. Traveling 40 mph or more should be more than enough air to keep temps in the 205 range regardless of ambient temps. So your not going to accomplish lowering the temps by turning the fan on sooner. None of my electric fans have ever even needed to run while traveling. Only when sitting in traffic, or the ac on.

Also a 180 thermostat will not keep the engine cooler, it only exchanges the water sooner. Eventually if the radiator or water pump is not doing they're jobs 100% efficient then it will gradually creep back up to 220. A cooler thermostat sometimes makes a warm running engine run hotter , because the coolant is not in the radiator long enough to exchange the heat.

Cool. I'd rather have a gauge I can read while driving but to each there own. And I'm still going with your fine and don't fret over a few degrees. If the car overheats then worry. As long as the fan is coming on and the temp is dropping you have no worries.

When i flushed radiator, antifreeze was still green. Also no leaks. I dont see how radiator can be going bad? As for water pump who knows. Maybe its a bout to dive.

radiator can be going bad by being clogged etc. your coolant can actually become like a battery when not changed at the proper intervals. and it will wear away metals and they will collect in the radiator etc

But when that is the case doesn't the water turn different colors? Also radiator looks good but im not saying its not bad either.

Ok, so when im driving around town that's when my engine temp sits a 225 steady. Once im on freeway within 5 minutes the temp goes down to 190ish which I really like! any reason why it runs soo hot in town?

Gets hotter in town because your stopping and going, not driving as fast , and the only fast moving air over the radiator is the fan. The fan does not push enough air to keep temps at 190. If its not going over the 225 don't worry.

Remember , hotter engines run cleaner. That's why the cooling system is not designed to keep temps at 160. It helps with the emissions regulations, also why when having your car inspected for smog , you want it to be good and warm.
