Which gears are better?

RE: Which gears are better?
I talked to guys here at a mustang shop last week about gears and they said to definately go with 373. They said all these young kids come in wanting 410 gears but they dont make a very good driving car it is almost strictly for the strip.

RE: Which gears are better?
I wish I had gotten 4.10 gears instead of my 3.73's.
with the 3.73 doing 80mph the revs are at 2000rpm.
with a 4.10 mabye 2200rpm.
its not a big difference in rpm.
at 150mph I hit about 4500 rpm. but who goes that fast every day.
I would at least try the 3.90 gears, its in between the 2 others.
unless you plan on having a supercharger in the future, go with the 3.73 or even 3.55

RE: Which gears are better?
I would say 3.55's and here's why.......Your car is light so you don't need the extra gear because more than likely your not running slicks, drag radials, or taller tires. Second if your still pretty much stock you have (or should have) tons of low end torque to use the lower gear (number wise). Ford calls out for a 3.55 gear in the 87-93 5.0's as the best gear for that car with 3.73 for the 94 and up 5.0's/4.6's. So unless you mostly drag racing or building a high rpm engine in the near future I would say 3.55's, I expect some comments from my reply but give me reasons why 3.73's or 4.10's would be better. The only way I would say a higher gear would all relate to the above statements about drag racing and engine with high powerband.
