Default AOD experts (gear selection)

Hello everyone,

I have a 1966 mustang that I have been working on. It has a 302 swapped which is stroked out to a 347. I Put a aod behind it but with the stock gear on my car (2.80) makes the car is not so desirable.

I've read many say go with 4.10s but would like to get some feed back in my own thread.

The car has a 2800 non lock up stall and 25.3" tires. Let's here the suggestions.

Car will be a street/strip

4.10 with my tire size puts me at 2700 rpms on the highway. Isn't that a little high?

Not in my opinion. These are things that have to be delt with on a duel purpose car. And according to the calulator on the American muscle sight it says you'll be at 2300 RPMs at 65mph with 4.10 gears in a AOD.

I've run 4.10 gears with an AOD for years. I would definitely choose them again.

What tire size did you use and that's not counting for a non lock up?

I had considered swapping in a 4r70w 1st and 2nd. Which would bring my 1st to 2.84 and 2nd to 1.55.

Been told with that ratio I can run 3.55 and it would be equal to a standard ratio aod with 4.10s for 1st and 2nd. Any truth to this?

(Axle Ratio x Vehicle Speed x Transmission Ratio x 336.13) / Tire Diameter =

(4.10x 70 x 1.00 x 336.13) / 25.3 = 2554

Plus couple hundred rpms for a non lock up.

4:10 & AOD =

Unless your driving cross country, your gonna love it.

But 3:73s would be fine if your in doubt.

I had 3:55s in my Fox with the AOD, around 330hp at the motor, 2850 lbs, and would have liked a little more gear out of the hole.
