Default Lower intake air leak

Hey mustang people,

Let me start of by saying that I am new to the forum. I drive a 1989 mustang 5.0 that was given to me by my dad who is the original owner. Since I have been driving I I have noticed that my idle surges and I can hear a loud whining sound coming from the lower intake. Well a me and a friend sprayed the area where the sound was coming from with carb cleaner and we narrowed our search when the engine stalled. We then removed the intake manifold to fine that there was a gap between what looks to be the lower intake and the head. I provided a link to some pictures that I took. I would like to know if there is a way to fix this because I have a smog test coming up soon.

Thanks, I hope I provided enough detail.

The car is bone stock. Nothing has ever been done to the intake. The gap seems to be from the headers and it is stick up past the lower intake.

the headers are on the outside of the heads, while the intake manifold is on the inside. That's the weirdest thing I have seen though, it's almost like the intake looks like it's too small. like someone shaved the manifold down.

The lower intake is bolted with a gasket. The two bolts are missing because I was getting ready to remove the intake, but I stopped. I don't know what type of gasket because I have never removed the lower intake from the engine. There appears to be no gap like that on the drivers side.

Yea my bad I meant heads. Yea I'm wondering if it may have warped or something. Because it doesn't look like that on the drivers side at the same location.

if there is no gap / hole showing on the other side, then you don't have the intake sitting level/correctly centered, meaning you have it cocked

Thanks, is there anything I should know before removing it and re-centering the intake?
