tick and studder??
hey guys... this has been a really bad week. to start some fu##ing bastard knifed my conv. top and keyed my car in my driveway. the alarm went off and scared them off. turns out a few neighbors had their cars broken into the same night and they used a bolt cutter to get into a shed as well. so at first i thought it was just some vandals but maybe they were trying to get in the car before they keyed it. insurance will fix it but its 500 bucks out of my pocket [:@]. i hope they die a horrible death! now to the reason for this post
i go out for a ride to make myself feel better which it usually does...not this time. the car was driving great but i didn't get on it at all, a few miles later i pull up at a light next to a wall and hear a ticking, i don't know when it started this car is obnoxiously loud (more like a o/h 427 ) especially for a turbo but like i said i didn't hammer it at all. i pulled into a lot and sure enough its from the inside valve cover... most likely a lifter or a pushrod. i started it back up and when i drove it "studdered" the entire time like a cylinder was out (no bucking or anything) and you could hear it in the exhaust. i just putted it home. maybe a valve is stuck open or closed? the whole motor has under 15k miles (weekend warrior) and it has ferra os valves, titanium springs and retainers, chromoly pushrods, frpp 1.72's. think i bent a chromoly pushrod?? i read post where the ticking was a bend pushrod but nobody metioned a studdering or diffence in performance. i will probably get into it after work i just want to pick peoples brains. please don't reply if you are totally guessing... i see too many post where people give a big reply and end it with " I'm not sure or I don't know etc.[&:] " Thanks in advance

RE: tick and studder??
If there were vandals out, you want to check your fuel for something, anything, they could've dumped into your gas tank!!! Did it start happeneing after the vadalism?? If so STOP DRIVING IT UNTIL YOU HAVE YOUR FUEL SYSTEM CHECKED!!!!

RE: tick and studder??
i have a lock on my gas cap so you can't get it off without a key. it was definitely a tick coming from the valve cover (not too loud) but the studdering made me think it was more than just my oil being a bit low or something. my few friends and i went out on the atv's after work yesterday so i didn't get to open up the valve covers. it is supposed to rain around here this weekend so i'll probably do it then. i just wanted to see if anyone else had noticed a studdering when they had a problem (possibly) with their valve train.
