Default question?

I got a 91 lx 5.0,not much done to it,I have flowmaster exaust and 3.73 gears.Just wondering,when I take the rpms up high,it gives me a popping sound,not so much a back fire, but an embarissing popping sound when I power shift,any idea why it does this?..thanks, if anyone can help....

Could be an exaust leak... I would check that out.

maybe it could be the EGR valve or smog equiptment?

It might be because there is a gasoline vapor build up when you top off a gear and when you shift and the valve opens up rapidly the spark ignites it and causes a small pop or back fire. I would get a set of headers and or a mid-pipe for a more freely flowing exhaust
