Default Summint roll cage kit, other brand kit, or local fabricator?

the next step in the build up of my 1983 notch back is a roll cage. i am looking at getting a summit racing 10 point kit. is this a good kit? any one have experiance with it? or should i go with a different brand of kit? or should i be loocking to the local fabricators? i dont know of to many local fabricators. nor do i really know what they are capable of. let me know what you guys have had luck with.

you shouldnt need a 10pt. all you really need is a 6pt to be legal

i have to say i like custom cages more. with my setup its easy to get in and out of the car. and it was tied into how i wanted it. its into the shock towers and i also have another shock bar tied into it. and now im getting two bars off my main hoop to tie into my upper torque boxes. that way there isnt any flex or push with those.

id put a 6 point in it if i wasnt worried about flipping it over. not that i think i am going to flip it over, but i am building a road race car, not a drag car. one slip pff the pavement sideways on the grass and ill be wishing i had more than a 6 point when i am wearing a windshield for a face mask. so does any one have any experiance with the kits available from jeggs or summit?

It depends on how much money you have. Also those Summit kits are made to NHRA, you should check that they meet your sanctioning bodies rules. A custom cage will run you a pretty penny where the kits are pretty cheap but the fit is not always the best.

are you serious? A custom cage for $400? most places want at least a $1000 for any thing like that and that's with mild steel not chromoly

yea man, my buddy is getting his name out there. he has done so many cages lately for everyone on www.Pittspeed.com. his shop is www.dominationchassis.com has done many dirt track cages, drag cages, road course and auto cross

this is my cage minus a few things. its there now getting Anit-roll bar, harness tabs, and two bars off the main hoop to tie into the upper torque boxes

Chassis shops in most parts of the country are charging about $100 per point for a custom roll-bar/cage installion. Thats for mild steel which should be good enough for what you are doing.
DO NOT attempt to install any roll bar/cage unless you are an experienced mig welder/fabricator. I've cuttto many of these things out of cars in order to do it correctly......
