Temp sending Unit issue
Hi guys,
Just bought a Mustang '89 5.0 modded with dual electric rad fans, operated manually. Seem to have electric issues with this car, fuse #8 pops as soon as a fuse is put in (even if key isn't in).
Right now the Temp gauge isn't working, needle always at bottom. Is it possible that #8 powers the sening unit/gauge and is why it's not working?
If not, send your thoughts on what I should do to get a working temp gauge please. Even though I drive it with the fans on, I still want to know how hot Baby is.

Fuse #8
courtesy lamps, dimmer switch, power mirrors, radio , fuel filler cap release.
One of these has a short in it some place.
Also how is the fan wired up, did you do it or was it like that when you bought it?
The gauge is likely not reading due to either a faulty sending unit, its unplugged at the engine, the wire is broken, or the gauge itself is toast.

Fuse blows before I turn on fans, like as soon as I pop it in it blows.
Removed wire harness from temp sending unit while at idle - got a check engine right away - so either unit is defective, wires are good and cluster gauge is good or unit is good, wires are good and cluster gauge is shot.
Let me know what you think...

Not really sure but I don't think the sending unit for the temp gauge will throw a check engine light.
Are you sure you unhooked the sending unit and not the ECT on the passanger side?
The sending unit for the gauge is on the driver side of the intake ..

Hmmm I curious to know what the code is lol , because I never heard of that happening before, pple by pass the dash cluster gauge all the time and just remove that sending unit in place of an after market gauge unit. I did it to my 94 as well and no light ever came on, I just left the wire unhooked on mine and installed a autometer gauge sending unit.

Weird. I was looking at this replacement TSU and not sure about the bolt sticking out from it.
