oem steel gear gear should not be worn out, rare I ever see such unless the wrong one was used to begin with

when i bought the car years ago it would not start,so we replaced the dist and it started.To me it looks like a cast gear on it.I was able to pork my magnet in the front sump and got out some pieces of the gear out.I have not put many miles on it.
