95 gt dead fuel pump??
 

Hey guys
i put the car back together, fuel pump worked before i took it apart. didnt work when i put everything back together. i ran power right to the pump, no good.
i took the pump out and tried again, no dice.
pics below.
questions:
is there supposed to be some type of filter on the bottom of the pump? as you see it is how it came out.

if there was supposed to be soemthing there, could that be why it wont turn on? perhaps theres a switch at the bottom that knows the filter isnt there (theres a small spring on the bottom of the pump, not sure what its for)

i have the pump out and the breather thing, and the tank dropped. i guess i shoud replace all the gaskets. anybody know all the part numbers?

whats the yellow gunk on the terminals. i mean , i think i knows it supposed to be there to prevent corrosion, but whats it called?

i want to replace the tank gaskets too btw.

what size pump should i replace with? this one is stock but from i can tell, might as well get more flow just in case. i do have some mild mods (in sig)

also, any common practices when at this stage (tank off)?

seriously?? look at that pump, it needs replacing and if there is that much rust on the casing of the pump, and there shouldn't be............it appears your tank has had water in it at some point and time, or moisture of some sort, I'd inspect the tank for rust as well and yes there should be a sock on the end, if you don't address both issues expect greater issues down the road., you should replace the fuel pump carrier as well with that much rust/corrosion on it.

This is where the phrase "Clean Slate" comes to mind. I wonder what the inside of your fuel filter looks like ?

I'd personally just start over with new everything, and I'm probably the cheapest person on this forum.

But trying to fix that mess with a new pump and filter is just going to lead to bigger headaches down the road. Seriously, it would always be in the back of my head on every drive, what the inside of that tank must look like.

I'm not trying to be an smart a$$ here, as I've done some pretty cheap/crappy repairs in my time. But I learned from my mistakes. Shop around for awhile, a " clean slate" won't be as much as you'd think. That's another great thing about fixing a Foxbody. Parts are cheap...

Just have to pick a pump to match your mods.

so clean slate means new tank, pump, carrier, etc.
that link says 87-97 at top, then description says 87-93. there was at least one comment from a guy that said it worked on his 94, so i should be fine. will check with them before ordering so im sure.

what about the fuel lines? do they rust (i dont know if they are stainless)? cause heres the thing, i had the engine apart for a couple years, fuel lines off the rails, just sitting there open to air. maybe this is how the moisture got into the tank? (i live in jersey)
the tank was about 3/4 full at least the whole time though, so prob thats why the pump carrier is only rusted near top.

im not against spending money, so thats not a problem

oh, another question:
does the vapor valve need replacing? you can see in the pic, its got all that black sealant around it and looks awful, but if i just clean it up, should be fine? not trying to be cheap, im fine with spending money, not fine with wasting it. 8-)

also, where does the vapor vent line go? one end connects to tank obviously, but where does the other side go, the tubing i mean.

so that black gook on my vapor vent is apparently this seal above that for whatever reason was dissolving. not sure why it looked so crappy though. just normal? been there for 20 years

I've got a good tank and pump assembly at my shop, and I have a new tank on its way. When it arrives, I can just switch the items in the box and send it right over to you.
