N00b Questions

OK,

So let me start with the fact that I'm a total newbie to this. The work I have done on cars in the past has been so that I could get to work and my car stopped working. I've replaced a fuel pump, changed brakes, done some simple stuff.

A really good friend of mine just passed away and he loved classic Mustangs, especially the 1990s models. So his wife sold me one of his favorite projects. It is a 1991 GT. From what I can figure out, he did a head swap to 347 stroker with a kit.

I'm pretty sure this is about to become a new hobby for me. What else should I be doing to this car next? I see people talking about turbo, versus supercharging. Again, I have no idea what I'm doing here. I've been trying to do research, but opinions very a lot as far as what a good build is.

What should my plan be if I had say 5k? How would that change for 10k, or 15k?

Depends on how fast you want to go or how much power you want to make. is the 347 kit forged? the main thing with a stock block mustang is just that the block. If you want to make more then 500 HP. Gears make a huge difference if the car does not have them. Subframe connectors and lots of suspension mods could be done. It comes down to what you want to do with it. Sounds like you got a good budget to start with. More info is really gone to be needed.

Welcome aboard the forum.

What is your purpose for the car - drag racing or a daily driver?

+1 ^^^

What are your plans for the car in how your going to use it ? Daily driver, dedicated open track car, 1/4 mile strip car. Or all the above lol.

Sorry for the loss of a good friend, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the Forum and tough way to get a nice car. From your picture I'd guess your friend was taking a performance daily driver approach with the A/C still intact. Like the others said already what are your goals for the car?

stock block+ power adder = no go.......you can have one or the other on a stock block....not both and be safely reilable

this is just not true, from experience I have had nitrous (300hp shot) and a blower (novi 1000, 13psi) on a stock block with stock bottom end and h/c/i, and it lived for a few years. Sure you couldnt just go and put 20psi on it and expect it to live, but it will be happy at 10psi or less.

Oh dear........here we go again..........I did this therefore everyone should, could and may get away with it....thus it is the norm and thus = the standard...........don't read between the lines my friend..........the point I'm making is reliability for the long term........not 2/few years
