Default Shifter Question

So I took off my shift ****, the boot, and the plating and silicone thing and was looking at my shifter. I took out the 4 bolts holding my shifter down and tried to pull it up and out. I then saw that the freakin thing was glued down with some type of strong adhesive around the whole bottom. I want to get a new short throw shifter and I was wondering if anyone had some ideas on how to get rid of the adhesive. The previous owner must have done that...don't know why besides to keep it extremely firm in place but the bolts should be enough to do that.
So anyone have some ideas? I was thinking about heating up the adhesive but I don't have a torch.

Shove the shifter side to side nice and hard it will come off. They are all like that from factory. There isn't any thing in there you can hurt really.

Interesting, didn't know that. There's already a short shifter in it, don't know the brand, so that means the previous owner used adhesive on it again. Well I'll give it a try then, thanks!

What a good laugh.

Thank you.

Put the trans in neutral and slam the shifter side to side. It'll pop off.

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. I wasn't about to force anything before finding answers, hence the reason for my post. I've only been in the Fox game for a few months so excuse my lack of knowledge. Do people usually reapply adhesive? Should I?

yes. it's not used as an adhesive... but rather, a sealer. There are reusable rubber gaskets that you could use, but I just silicone them.

There is fluid under them afterall.

The instructions for my Tri-Ax call for silicone gasket maker. I used Ultra Blue RTV.

Thanks guys, I'll make sure to use the sealer when installing the new shifter.

Stuff I use on mine is glue (honda ultraflange). I could take the bolts out and drive the car and not break it free. I usually have to get under car and use a screwdriver/prybar and hammer and knock the crap out of it to break it free.
