RE: Computer Issues 1989
look at the engine, where the intake tube goes to the intake, follow it to the front of the strut tower there should be a mass air meter there.
if there isnt you are speed density and you will have to do a mass air conversion, or get the speed density computer.

RE: Computer Issues 1989
I confirmed it does have mass air. I don't get this situation then. The fuel pump won't kick on and the check engine light stays on when the ignition is off. Is there anything on the motor I could have forgotten to hook up when I changed it out that would cause any of this? I'm getting desperate now.
Thanks,
Ryan

I know this is a stupid question, but you didn't by chance install the wires upside down did you? I'm kinda at a loss over the check engine light staying on after you turn the ignition off.
It could be a crimped wire somewhere under the dash when you pulled the original computer out.

i have a 90 gt with an a9p cpu,,,,,,i just installed an a9l cpu,,,,the bolt was not an issue and it runs fine!!!!!!! i think maybe the previous owner of ur car may have installed a different wiring harness.....need to check for pinched wires is my recommendation on ur problem....

RE: Computer Issues 1989
Ok. Sunday I checked over the wires. The bolt I cut off I ground it the rest of the way flush with the plug. I put the A9P in the car and the check engine light went out when the key was off but that was the only change from the A9L. I tested and I am getting spark with both computers. I did check the ignition at the column and it fell apart in my hands, I replaced it but no change. What is confusing to me is everyone says maybe it's the fuel pump but yet the relay under the seat isn't clicking. Where is the pump relay on a 92 gt? I am very much at a loss on this. I am calling the ford lot today and see if they can tell me anything different. BTW the sticker on the door says the car was made 9/88.

RE: Computer Issues 1989
the fuel pump relay on a 92 is under the maf sensor, i think their is 2 of them, do you have a local ford dealer? if so ask them why it has the longer bolt. it sounds like to me it may need a certin computer.

RE: Computer Issues 1989
when you turn on the ignition, can you hear the fuel pump?
take off the trim panel inside the back where the taillights are, there should be a small box with a red button on it, this is the fuel inertia switch that shuts off the fuel pump in case of an accident.
push the button to reset it.
other than that I dont know what else to say.
and I didn't know there is 2 relays for the fuel pump.

RE: Computer Issues 1989
Worked on it again last night. I started checking over the wiring. I found an alarm from yesteryear and disconnected it from everything. I found another module I did not throw away cause I did not know what it was, it was oval and said mach 9 on the front. The module was not hooked up but having that kind of name it sounded ford oriented. Anyway, I did take my meter to the fuel pump relay wires and guess what? I found the relay is not getting power! That is where I stopped, I spent a lot of time on it and I'm stuck. Thanks for the help.
