Default 1995 Mustang High Idle issues

I have a 95 mustang GT that is having an intermittent issue with idle speed. My normal idle speed is about 600-700 RPM.

When the issue occurs the engine will idle at about 800-900 RPM at start. The longer I drive the higher the idle will start at when I stop at light. Eventually it gets to the point where I will stop at light the engine will hold idle a 1500-2000 RPM (depending on my RPMs before I stop). Sometimes, after a few seconds the idle will drop by a couple hundred RPM, then drop below 1000 RPM, before finally rising back to 1000 RPM. If I turn the car off, it will usually return to a higher than normal Idle in the 800-900 range.

After looking online I found that an electrical plug referred to as the salt and pepper shaker can cause similar issues once they get dirty. Unfortunately, I am not sure is that plug exists in the 95 mustangs, and if it does I am having a hard time finding where it is located. Can somebody help me find where it is located and any other possible causes for my issues? Thank you in advance.

I'd start looking for a vacuum leak. If none are found, do a "Base Idle Reset" and see if that helps.

Post back with what you find. Good luck

And welcome to the forum....

Another vote for vacuum lines. Salt and pepper shakers can cause idle issues if dirty but I would check vacuum lines first. You can do a search for surging idle and just work your way down the list.

I will check the vacuum lines. I will have to wait till next weekend. It does it worse in the mornings, so I will check it then. I will let you know how that turns out

Your car doesn't have the "salt and pepper" connectors.

It sounds like you have a heat induced vacuum leak. Replace all your rubber vac hoses, inspect your manifold for cracks, and be prepared to replace your upper and lower intake gaskets, as well as the TB gasket

Update:
Sorry for taking so long to update, the car went a week without doing it before the demons cam back during this past week. Anyway I reset the Idle, so I will see if that fixes the issue this coming work week. With the idle motor unplugged, the car "idled" at 250-300 RPM. "idled" because it stalled pretty quickly. I will remain optimist and hope that does the trick, if not I will look a little harder for a vacuum leak.
