TPS wire (black wire)
So i had mentioned in an earlier post about intermittent surging on an 89 Mustang LX 5.0 that i had just picked up. I took a look at the TPS sensor tonight and noticed the black wire was all jacked up. Looks like the P/O broke it and tried to fix it, but did not do it the proper way. Being as the TPS voltage needs to be precisely set at .96-.98v, could this wire being held together by nearly a thread throw it off this much as to cause the intermittent surge? i have attached pics.

I'm no expert in this, but I'd assume it's still working if the car is still drivable. Without a TPS signal, the car may idle, but the ECM would have a fit when you tried to drive it.
Definitely get it fixed, but I don't think it's the cause of your surge.
I don't know what you've all done to search for this, but there are a ton of threads on steps to take. My car had a slight surge a while back and I did all the things that are recommended to find the problem and nothing really helped. I also run an Anderson PMS and i found that if I pulled 2' timing at idle it smoothed everything out perfectly. That probably doesn't help you much, but it's what cured mine.

Yep, that may help. But it seems 90% of a surge problem can be linked to even the smallest vacuum leak. Make sure your 100% sure there's no leak. Then I'd clean the IAC, MAF sensor, and do a base idle reset.
