Default Best way to prep and paint new crossmember?

I'm getting a new Ford Racing Crossmember as a replacement for my factory one because it's starting to rot. I'm getting it from LMR and they state that it comes bare and unfinished with slight surface rust. I didn't want to pay double the price for a billet one. So my question is, what's the best way to prep and paint it? Please include materials needed. Thanks in advance!

Materials needed ......... Paint

Just buy a decent, brand name can of black paint (Flat or Glossy is your choice) and follow the instructions on the can. The most important thing to do is get it clean, no oil residue. You may have to get some type of cleaner/solvent and give it a good brushing Then let it dry completely. Then throw 2 - 3 coats on and mount it up. This isn't a show piece so I wouldn't worry about getting it perfect.

I would use a green or red scotch pad to clear off the surface rust, prime it with rattle can primer, and paint it with rattle can black, brand of your choice. Get at any auto parts store. Easy peezy.

I'm not worried about it being perfect, I just wanted to know the basics of prepping it and painting it and you guys covered that, thanks!

If this is your first time painting something, just jump on YouTube and watch a couple videos on it.

Prep is the most important part of it. Good luck

If you want it pretty for a long time, find a local powder coater.

It would be my first time painting something that actually goes on a car. So I will look up some videos as well. Powder coating sounds nice too but like mentioned previously, no one will see the cross member unless you're underneath the vehicle.
