Has anyone used Explorer INTERNAL EGR spacer for GT40 intake?
Obviously GT40 topics have been blown up online. Please send me in the right direction if this has been covered before.
I am trying to decide if I want to run EGR, but that's not what I want to talk about. Here's what I do want to talk about: Has anyone used the right angle internal EGR spacer that came on the early Explorers? See the pictures. The left one is for internal EGR and the right one is for external EGR, I was considering using the left one.
If anyone has any experience using it, please let me know about:
-Throttle cable routing/mounting
-Intake heating up too much due to EGR heat
-This angle is awkward for intake piping, still doable with foxbody?
If it is too much of a hassle, I will get a 70mm throttle body spacer and scrap EGR.
Some sites online state that even if there are provisions for internal EGR on an Explorer, they ONLY used external (Five oh info website). This is not true, as the 96 Explorer I pulled the left spacer off of WAS using internal EGR. If anyone is curious, since these part combinations seemed odd, this is what I found in my junkyard:
1996 Explorer
F3ZE GT40 cobra/lightning heads with 7/16" bolt holes
GT40 upper and lower with internal EGR passages that WERE being used
Flat top right angle internal EGR spacer (left)
1997 Explorer
GT40p heads
GT40 upper and lower with internal EGR passages that were NOT being used
Round design right angle external EGR spacer (right)
Thanks guys

Ok, now I think I understand. Really got some time to poke around it this weekend. Unfortunately the right angle makes the throttle body run like directly into the oil cap. I see that the explorers have a weird extended one to go around it. Also, since there is no throttle body mounting location, you will need to get a spacer that has mounting for that on it so you didn't save any money. Also the egr valve of the foxbody can be swapped onto a larger 65mm egr spacer for the GT40 so you can run egr that way.
