1971 302 in a fox body

As the title says. Found a decent proceed and looking 1971 302. Has anyone ever put an early model block in a fox? Obviously things will need to be changed oil pan, timing cover, roller conversion etc. Can someone spread some knowledge? Thanks!

210 hp for 1971. Cast iron block probably won't do you much good as far as weight goes though. But each to their own. What did the motor come out of? Manual or automatic? What year fox is this motor going into? Conversion depends a lot on those details.

[Not sure what it came out of or trans. HacenHa asked yet haha .Going in a 86 lx. Either that or a junkyard explorer motor.

get the explorer motor. its a roller cam, gt40 heads, one piece rear main seal, and has the hole for the dipstick in the side of the block and its the right balance for your 86

Yeah I plan on grabbing that one. I just have no idea how to pull one out of a mountaineer. The motor mounts are almost impossible to get to. I may try taking the manifolds out and see .

Those 5 litres are really crammed into the old explorers, I used to own one, it was tough to get at anything in that engine bay. Good luck.
