Default New battery and alternator

I just got my new alternator and wondered if anyone has used one of these. It's a Powermaster 140A alternator with one-wire hookup. It came with a wire to connect it directly to the positive terminal of the battery. There are three wires connected to the current alternator - should I do anything with them or just tie them out of the way?

Also, I need a new battery. I'm probably going to get as many different recommendations as there are people who answer this question but I'll ask it anyway: what is the best battery I can buy that will fit. I've checked the Optima web site and they don't make a battery that fits.

Thanks,
John

I did read the instructions and yes, they did tell me, and that is what I did. I was just wondering if the people had had more information about it. Also, if you read my post, Optima doesn't make a battery that fits my car.
