clutch problems
I have replaced the clutch cable in my car 5 times and i still have the same problem the pedal is very very hard. I have routed it many different ways and even by the the one website you guys gave me and it still has a problem. i bought the MM clutch cable kit since it uses the Ford cable which surpose to be the best and the pedal is still very hard so i dont think its the cable i thinks its something else. Please help

RE: clutch problems
squats and/or the leg press should alleviate that problem of having a hard clutch pedal.

RE: clutch problems
Could just have a very stiff clutch plate. What brand are you using? The FoMoCo one is pretty darn light....

RE: clutch problems
i have a heavy duty clutch in the car but the problem is when i change the cables the is lighter but then it goes back to being really really hard

ORIGINAL: stanglx2002 i have a heavy duty clutch in the car but the problem is when i change the cables the is lighter but then it goes back to being really really hard If it only has 3 or 4 fingers, you're stuck with it. If it's multi-prong (diaphram) style I would say get a differet plate and leave the disc the same. |
RE: clutch problems
a bent clutch fork would do it to wouldnt it
my uncle installed the clutch fork with the throwout bearing while i was working on the engine and he knocked the TB out of the fork and i drove the car for 2 months before i noticed that it wasnt there so i think the fork is bent and im going to replace it and also check if anything is missed up before i pull the tranny again |
RE: clutch problems
I would think a bent fork would give you other problems as well since it would not engage the plate properly.

RE: clutch problems
then why would a new clutch cable be soft and after 2 days it goes to being hard that wouldnt be a clutch problem or the quadrant so the only thing left is the TB and the Fork
|
RE: clutch problems
is the cable getting cought or pinched on any thing?
|
RE: clutch problems
no not at all
|
RE: clutch problems
i guess we just have really stiff clutches im going to try and reroute the cable again and see if thats makes it better
i guess the TOB or the fork would do this right? |
RE: clutch problems
i thought about this for a minute, cause my buddy had the same problem then one day we went gear banging....then BOOM! we were like what the hell was that? then the peddle was easy to push in..what we found out was the fork was twisted just enough to cause a bind....what type of qaudrant are you using?

RE: clutch problems
an aluminum quad rant with a firewall adjuster and then the MM universal clutch cable
|
RE: clutch problems
Quik do you have any idea whats going on

RE: clutch problems
IMO the pressure plate is worn. Happened to me on several clutches on several cars. Whenever it gets worn the pedal pressure increases. The cable has nothing to do with pedal stiffness. The cable controls pedal/clutch engagement.
