EFI to carb conversion on 90 LX 5.0 ALSO BELT LENGTH??? and intro....
This is my first post here so I figure an into of sorts is needed so I wanna say hey to everyone, Names cole an I have too many damn cars lol... not all mustangs. But my mustangs include a 88 gt convertable, 5spd conversion, 3:73s.. basicly stock. 84 stang vert project. I JUST bought a 90 LX with 5.0 an 5spd. Got it CHEAP real cheap.. $750. Runs good BUT. The car has been swapped to carb... And it looks like they just slapped an intake an carb on it an bent the fuel line up an ran it to the carb....BUT doesn't it need to have a regulator of sorts??? I would think the pressure would be through the roof. unless there is another pump on the frame rail or something I dunno I haven't torn into it yet. But they did a hack job on the carb swap. even the original distributor is used... HOW IS THIS THING RUNNIN??? I would think I would have to swap to an older dizzy. Anyways I wanna sort this messed up thing out and make it dependable.. I wish I had all the old EFI stuff... I'd swap back.. But money is an issue right now as I am in school an I just wanna get it runnin good on the carb so I can drive it while I get my convertable painted. Anyways I ALSO have a question on the belt... I wanna do away with the smog pump thats mounted on the engine an keep the compressor if its good.... What size belt do I need to do away with the smog pump??? ALSO what about if I decide to do away with the smog pump and a/c what length belt do I need?? THANKS!!!

Well actually, I'm not sure of the belt length but I do know that I've had problems with my tensioner pulling the belt down on top of the water pump pully and frying the belt. You could get a smog pump and a/c compressor eliminator pully. I opted for Vbelts cause it was cheaper. As for the dizzy. Don't know... But I think that that dizzy makes switching to MSD easy. I put a points dizzy with a Pertronics ignotor on... Cost me 50 bucks but I don't have but two ignition wires now. That's what I'ld do. Get some Vbelt pullies off a truck and get a truck voltage regulator and be on your way for under 20 bucks... Oh and as for the fuel pressure question. Yes you should need a regulator unless they put a lower pressure pump in the fuel tank or on a line somewhere....

You just need an 850k6 belt but you have to run it differently over the water pump and crack pully. Someone should have the diagram.
