Default HELP W/ CAT & CAT BACK SYSTEM

I just bought a 88 mustang 5.0 GT. The guy who sold it to me said it had an X-pipe...It doesn't have a CAT tho... I was looking at full cat back systems, but i wasn't sure if the X-pipe was included in the system or not. I wans't sure(if i didn't get the cat back exaust) if i would need 1 or 2 cats? And the last thing is that the whole dipstick piece came out of the oil tank. The tube that the dipstick goes into and all... i didn't know what to plug it up with until i can get it fixed so it doesnt spit out oil.

Default RE: HELP W/ CAT & CAT BACK SYSTEM

The exhaust is broken down into three parts: headers, mid pipe, and cat-back. Headers come either long tube or shorties. The shorties can be equal or unequal length tubes. Attached to the headers are the mid-pipes or more commonlt h-pipe. If you look at an H-pipe you'll know where it gots its name from. There is also an x pipe which obviously looks like an "X". These mid-pipes are made for long tubes or shorties. and come with or without cats. Most if not all aftermarket mid pipes come in the two cat version. Only the factory h-pipe has four ( 2 pre-cats & 2 cats). Muffler kits are called cat-back systems b/c the include the parts AFTER the cats. This includes the flow tubes, mufflers, and tailpipes. If you alraedy have an X-pipe installed and want to change the mufflers for sound and/or performance you need a cat-back system. You could also buy the mufflers separately and re-use the existing flow tubes and tail pipes. These systems come 2.25 (stock size), 2.5 or 3". Most people go with a 2.5" system unless you plan on some serious hp/trq. A catted mid pipe should be used if you need to pass inspection.

Is it missing or just came out. If it is out you can push it back in and secure the tube to a header bolt. If its missing I wouldn't plug it with anything. I buy another dipstick and tube immediately.

I hope this helps.
