Default Factory Tach... aftermarket ignition

I have an '84 GT. I put a points distributor in with a pertronics ignitor because my stock system had been wired up funny by the previous owner and mysteriously stopped working. How do I get the stock tach to work? The wiring diagram looks as though I need to ground the black/green wire coming from the tach to the coil, but I wanted some input as a buddy of mine, who is a mechanic, tried to get his to work and said that his car died everytime he tried. Thanks in advance.

you need to find the wire for the tach its self and hook it to the coil and that should work, now shure if it will but it should

According to this diagram from Autozone, the tach gets it's signal from the + side of the coil via a dark Green / Yellow wire.

Oh I have the same diagram but I thought that the dark green/yellow wire was a ground.... I'll give that a try.
