timing
Im redoing the timing on my car. Now I stuck a screwdriver in spark plug hole # 1 and turned the motor over till it was at its peak. The first two valves are both completely decompressed. Does this mean its at top dead center of the compression stroke? Also When I put the distributor in, it aims the rotor right at cylinder # 1. Im a little confused so If im doing something wrong here let me know PLEASE

RE: timing
Unplug the coil wire. Then pull the #1 plug, put your thumb over the hole. Jump the starter solenoid. When #1 is on compression stroke, you will feel compressed air in cylinder. Put screw-driver in hole to feel for piston in up position. Check rotor position on distributor. Make sure it is pointing toward #1 on distributor cap. Look at timing pointer. Make sure it is at TDC position. Reinstall #1spark-plug,connect coil wire, and fire up motor. If, motor does not start(back fires) ,then the distributor needs to be pulled, cause it is 180 degrees off. Good Luck!!
