oil pressure

RE: oil pressure
Way back in the early 90's when I started driving I had a 86 4 banger notch mustang (man I wish I still had that car) and on more than one occasion I realized I was low on oil because I heard a lot of ticking and it had even less power than usual. I don't remeber noticing the oil pressure being low. For that matter I don't remeber if it had an oil pressure gauge. Anyway the point is, oil pressure isn't a good indication of oil level.

RE: oil pressure
I would be very upset. I would even make a seen at the shop(especially if customers are there). 1st ,I would tell the shop how could they diagnose a oil pressure problem with out a propperly operating press. gauge? Especially after you paid them $500.00! For all you know ,could of been your oil-press. sending unit or wiring. Sounds to me there giving you the run arround, now that they already have your $$$$. I would even put a complaint to the better business. Now you don't even have a before oil pressure reading to compare to the current oil-pressure! Seems they took Advantage of you just because your a young adult. I f you can prove that they didn't repair the problem,do you really think they will return the money. let us know how it turns out. Good luck!![:@]

Also, how could they give your car back if they are not sure if you have oil preesure. especially since you are driving it now. Try to down play the time yo have been driving. This could very easy snow ball into a complete engine overhaul!! Good luck!!

RE: oil pressure
yea ill sure remember that one you build up pressure and if you have leaks you wont have full psi. this is why you have a PCV. if you didnt have this you would have to much pressure built up. if you have some leaks where hte oil just puking out when driven hard then the psi is forcing it out. pressure has to go somewhere
ORIGINAL: 86HOGT
Leaks won't cause a pressure drop unless it's atthe filter or sending unit. Leaks at gasket or seal surfaces won't. Like, if you had an oil p[an or pan gasket leaking, it won't cause a pressure drop unless it run OUT of oil.

my Notch oil psi jumps around. ive seen it under load drop some then rise. my car also has a few oil leaks and if you ahve leaks it wont hold good enough psi. if its only leaks fix them and your fine.
now if you do lose oil psi totally the well its too late and motor is junk
