Rearend, gears and installation?

Rearend, gears and installation?
Hello all, new to the forums as well as to the mustang. Baught my first mustang last week, a red 5 speed 1995 GT convertible with minor upgrades such as tires and exhaust at purchase as well as a K&N cold air intake, accel wires, cap, and rotor which i purchased and installed myself.
Now to my question, I've read here on the forums somewhere that a 3:55 gear is the recommended upgrade and would just like to have it confirmed or denied as well as an estimated price.
I would also like to know if this is a relatively easy DIY'er, and if so then does anyone have any on-line guides in mind for installation along with torque settings for the crush bearing and such, even a quick walk-through would be helpful just to give me an idea of what I'm getting myself into.
I've never done rearend work nor have i ever seen the internals of the mustang rearend, so speak slowly and use small words.
First time posting, but have been an avid daily reader for over a week, love the forums and glad to be a member.
P.S. Would also like to know what my current stock gear ratio is.

if im not mistaken... i belife your stock rear end is a 2.73
now for the second thing i think you will be dissappointed with 3.55 i have 3.73s on mine im happy with it but most the poeple on this site will try to coax you into 4.10s i say either go with 410 or 373s your choose as far as difficulty i dont think it was an easy job at all.. there some things you have to set and measure such as back lash and if there not correct you can get some nasty end results
price wise you can get used gears relitivly cheap.. i went the brand new route and bought them from ford racing i got them for about 140 but i think there a bit more then that now.. and while your in there you mine as well rebuild the rear end you can get kits on ebay fairly cheap ranging from 100-150
but again its your money but i really think you will be disappointed with 3.55's

Well... you have sparked a conversation with that question. Should I go 3:55? or 3:73? or 4:10? It is all about what you want out of the cars performance. What do you plan on doing with the car? Street? Strip? Both? Just wanna have fun eating up imports? daily driver? All these questions are important to determine what you want out of the car. And you will get all types of answers.
My personal option was 3:55. But I have a T56 and plan on supercharging it soon. It is all up to you. Do you want to pull away from cars without having tons of HP? Go to 4:10. Want to use it as a daily driver and still have good gas mileage? 3:55. You want quick 1/4 mile times? 4:10. You want top end speed? 3:55. And even saying all of this, I am missing something. BUT! the one thing I am not missing is if you have never done it before, don't try it yourself. That is a fact and you will get no argument there.
I have a lot of know how but so do many other guys here and they will be happy to share their opinion on the subject you can bet.
The stock is 2:73 or so crap. I do not remember off the top of my head.

RE: Rearend, gears and installation?
This is my daily driver, I plan on babying this car so it will NOT be seeing any tracks/strips. I just want a little more umph in the seat of my pants coming out of 1st and 2nd gears. Eating Imports is a plus.

RE: Rearend, gears and installation?
you will not be disapointed with 3.55, i did em on my cobra from a 3.08 and its plenty. It is the best inbetween gear, and i would definitely not want any higher RPM on the highway as it sings as it is. 3.73s is also a popular gear for the 5.0, but for a mild 5.0 4.10s is too low of a gear, and your car will struggle through the end of the 1/4...
